Mapping Data Between Plan Types in Oracle PBCS

There are three options available for mapping data between Plan Types in Oracle PBCS :

1. Smart Push using Data Maps

2. Data Management (FDMEE on Cloud)

3. @XWRITE function

Smart Push using Data Maps

Pros:

1. Easy to set up.

2. Fast execution time, providing you only push data and do not run a clear script prior to data push.

3. Maps dimensions that are not available in the destination application, or vice versa. For example, you could move employee salaries from a staffing cube to a high-level P&L cube which doesn’t contain the employee dimension.

4. Maps a smart list to a dimension in the destination. For example, you could report on several attributes.

Cons:

5. Complex data mapping isn’t possible. for example, mapping several dimensions where certain members from the source application need to be mapped to very specific members in the destination application is not possible.

Smart Push and Data Maps

Oracle Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud uses data maps and Smart Push for out of box integration between the business processes.

Integration Scenarios :

In Financials, see a rollup of Workforce employee details and integrate Workforce expenses (such as salary, benefits, and so on) into Financials reporting.

Select Data Maps from Application. This will open Data Maps tab. Data Maps can be defined here.

To Create New Data Map, click Create Button

Select Source and Target Cube.

Define Mapping

Data Maps – Push Data ( Admin only)

Data Maps – Push Data (End User)

Another method of pushing data is associating Data Maps with data form at the time of data form creation. Once the Data Maps is associated with form, on each data submission Data Maps execution (Data Push) will start in backend.

Data Management (FDMEE on Cloud)

Pros:

1. Can map multiple dimension members from a source plan type to very specific members in the destination.

2. Data mapping can be uploaded, with functionality such as ranges, explicit mapping and the “Like” function.

3. Once the workflow is set up, it can be automated.

4. Provides detailed log files with errors and warnings.

Cons:

5. Can be complex to set up initially.

6. Cannot be used in conjunction with a business rule such as a clear script, unless the business rule is executed as a separate job.

Select Data Management from Administration menu

The Source Systems from which metadata and data has to imported must be registered in FDMEE.

To Register Source Systems on the Setup tab, under Register, select Source System

Give a name to Source System and select File as source system type.

Select application you want the data to be moved, Under Target Application.
 

Go to Import Format under Integration Setup and click Add to add a new Import Format that has Source Type as EPM (application) and Target Type as EPM (application)

 

  • Add a Location using above created Import
  • Format. Complete Period Mapping
  • Complete Category Mapping.

Create Data Load Rule in Workflow tab

 

@XWRITE Function

Pros:

1. Executes very quickly with a small data set.

2. Allows for customization prior to the data push.

3. Can be automated either as part of EPM Automate scripts, jobs, or added to a data form to run on save.

Cons:

4. Requires an administrator to maintain “Location Aliases” and a minor change could break the job.

5. Large data sets may take longer in execution.

6. Performance depends on how well the script is written and optimized.

  • Typical method of mapping data from one cube to another cube.
  • No change in functionality form in-premise to PBCS.
